a nice but old style port in Costa Rica on the Caribbean side… did the Tortuguera Canal river tour.. time for some wildlife pics.. howler Monkeys… 2 and 3 finger Sloths.. Crocs..not the shoes but the ones with big teeth.. many species of birds ..a final stop at the DelMonte Banana plantation — Costco Bananas.. nice tour with a great guide- Ivan..had a cocktail party in the Crow’s Nest to go to with the usual suspects–Captain.. arriving at the entrance to the Panama Canal at 530am to start the procedure to enter the Gatun Locks.. always an adventure.. well worth seeing.. our only regret was that this cruise doesn’t do the entire crossing to the Pacific as we’ve done many times in the past…we entered Gatun Lake then had to wait until the Canal traffic turned around so we could enter and cross back into the Atlantic stopping later this afternoon at the port of Colon just a couple of miles away from the Canal .. we got off the ship and walked around doing some shopping and getting some free wifi..decided to do the Pinnacle Grill once again… great food
I was up on deck before Sunrise… nice way to start a pretty day at sea as we continue to head toward the entrance to the Panama Canal tomorrow.. headed to the showroom for a show by the cast.. nicely done
arrived on time at 8am..waited for the stores to open then walked across the ever familiar Queen Emma pontoon bridge into downtown Willemstad..always a prett and colorful picture taking city..honeymooned here back in ’72..been back many times since… tomorrow is a day at sea as we set sail at 4pm for the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal with arrival Thursday early AM..
arrival time 1pm in Aruba and off the ship and headed over to the Radisson Marina complex…the many large Iguanas were hiding on the rocks this time around….. having been here a number of times we decided to walk the town …back on the ship and dinner in the Pinnacle tonite..sooo sooo good..
a day at sea as we head down to our next port Aruba…a lot more crowded on the pool deck aft than on the Maasdam..one must adapt so it was up to the Observation Deck-aft to get some rays… we .. formal nite in the dining room then on to the Captain’s welcome reception followed by the cast’s show–In Concert– in the Vista Showroom.. some time in the Casino where we met even more staff we knew.. nice to see familiar faces
was just here 2 days ago on the Maasdam… ruffer seas with higher winds made tendering a bit sporting… unfortunately we also were here with thee largest ship the Eurodam.. we walked down the beach to our usual spot away from the crowds.. it was nice and quiet even with both ships in port… had island lunch at the BBQ then it was back to the ship.. made a coule of reservations at the Pinnacle Grill.. once again a super nice day here in Half Moon Cay
after disembarking the Maasdam we got on the Zuiderdam for the 2nd part of our cruise…stops in Half Moon Cay, Aruba, Curacao, Gatun Lake Panama Canal and Colon Panama with a final stop in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica..a BIG SHIP at least for us
